"It's been a year, it's been twelve months since I've waited for this sunny day to show up. This sunny day that I came back from a very long wait in the household all the time. And all the freedom I could have."

Carlo Daleo (of LAND Studio & Gallery) completed his two month residency at Summertime in April of 2021, followed by a month long solo exhibition, The Carlo Daleo Show. “It was one of my dreams and it came true after all this time. I’ve been waiting my whole life for this."

Carlo spent the first week of the residency perfecting his commute, securing supplies and getting to know the local neighborhood haunts (i.e. the best spots to buy Diet Coke and a pepperoni slice). Then he got to work! “First I dream, then I deliver.”

Carlo collaborated with Jenna Weiss Berman, Co-founder of Pineapple Street Studios (producers of The Catch and Kill, Still Processing, and Women of the Hour with Lena Dunham), to record his dream radio show. Carlo DJ’d an hour-long segment of his favorite hits from the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s, musical anecdotes, nostalgia, and Road Runner sound effects. (Listen below!)

He also created an ambitious six foot mural based on his lifelong musical influences with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, The Beatles and other stars like Ray Charles and so on. Four of his original characters were included: Mellisa Sue Heart, Charlotte Blackstock, Angie Ritter (the muscular Italian librarian from Houston, Texas) and Tweedles the Cat.

Recollecting about his experience overall, Carlo shared that it made him feel, “Free, and brave and independent. Without anybody telling me what to do. I ate whatever I would like to eat for lunch. It felt great, I felt trusted again like I once did long before the pandemic. You know what, this is some of the best days of my life.”

“World, thank you so much for treating me kind and so thoughtfully. And I hope that you won’t overwhelm me. And I do hope that you continue to listen to my radio show on Summertime’s website to get the sensation of the Road Runner’s voice and my voice. Take care of yourselves everybody and thanks for letting me be your friend.”
