DEAN MILLIEN
Summertime is thrilled to announce artist in residence – Dean Millien.
Dean has taken Summertime by storm covering globe lights, tables and chairs in his beloved tinfoil. Referred to as the Tin Man, he has been making sculptures out of everyday objects and foil for as long as he can remember.
“I was making art inside my mom’s belly!”
Dean has already created foil creatures big and tiny during his residency – a teensy mouse, a giant lamb and the imposing head of a horse, to name a few – and has gone through twenty-two boxes of Reynolds Wrap. He has big visions for the rest of his time at Summertime, where he is sure to turn the space into an iridescent universe (open to the public in March).
Hailing from Brooklyn, Dean’s charisma and warmth have seeped onto Ainslie Street where he has begun informal portrait sessions with neighbors and friends. Dean chats with his subject and creates an animal sculpture in their likeness. Want to find out what animal you exude? Email us to get on his calendar for either a virtual or in person session! Each sculpture will be available for sale and may even make it into his solo exhibition.
Dean’s culminating exhibition One in a Millien opens Thursday, March 10 and runs through April 10th.
